DJ Chris Combs
Friday Resident DJ
Soon after graduating from the University of Georgia in 1990, Chris began his DJ experience spinning in several gay and straight nightclubs in his hometown of Augusta, GA. In 1994, he moved to Washington, DC, to pursue a career in finance. He became a Sunday night resident at Badlands (presently known as Apex) in 1995. After leaving Badlands, he played at private parties but did not pursue nightclub engagements again until the summer of 2004 when he came to work for Cobalt. In his spare time, Chris composes music and lyrics and has a goal to get his music produced.
DJ Luke Easley
Saturday Resident DJ
By Christopher de la Torre
DJ Luke Easley wastes no time with addicting you to his latest set. Whether you're lucky enough to hear this up-and-coming beat master during a live performance or simply slip in one of his flawlessly mixed recorded sets, you'll be moving yourself to a higher plane within minutes. While your first instinct may be to compare him to heavy hitters such as Danny Tenaglia, Angel Moraes, or Victor Calderone, pioneers of house music who have earned themselves household names by creating distinct niches within a broad and ever evolving electronic universe, you'll find that Easley's fresh and vibrant sounds deliver like no other.
Originally from Del Rio, Texas, Easley grew up in Choctaw, Oklahoma, an Oklahoma City suburb. Obsessed with cuts and scratches he heard at a local club, at age 16 he purchased his first turntable. Easley reminisces, "there was this cool underground club back in Oklahoma you could get into before midnight if you were 16. The garage music scene was great. The DJ there had this crazy sample with machine guns -- it was really hot. A few years later the whole after-hours vibe kicked in." And that's when it all started. At age 18, drawn to DC in order to pursue a higher education, Easley immersed himself in a new house landscape, and now reflects on the recent shift in the genre. "There's been a change... there wasn't much to choose from back then. Now, it's so much easier to create your own sound -- with production software alone you can program samples and create re-edits to personalize your style." They say the fruit never falls far from the tree. We should be so lucky. Now 25, Easley has drawn inspiration from DJ deities Steve Lawler and Cevin Fisher to put the finishing touches on his uniquely progressive, deep, yet soulful house recipe. This is house music handed to you on a silver platter. Don't come to one of his parties expecting not to get up. In a time when house music runs the risk of recycling itself into a corner, DJ Luke Easley fleshes out a classic foundation with rolling bass lines, sexy synth, confident transitions, and looping vocal delights.
While fantasizing about returning to the club in Oklahoma where he first heard house, he has other aspirations. "I'd like to play at Club Cielo in New York. It's got lots of light, everyone's exposed, dancing, having a great time. They come early and leave late -- it's an experience. I think it's possible to deliver a deep dark house sound without having to be in the dark." You might as well burn the word brilliant right out of the dictionary. With the likes of Deep Dish, Brian 'BT' Transeau, and Kevin Aviance to pave the way, DJ Luke Easley is a sure addition to DC's repertoire of predestined music superstars. Easley spins Saturday nights at Cobalt.

He has also been spinning an extremely successful and popular weekly 70's disco and 80's retro event for over 6 years and is working to develop the party into a national, traveling tour. Jason's Flashback party currently features continuously mixed, all original disco and retro music along with a live video show that compliments the theme to create a fun, high energy trip back in time.
Jason has worked at various clubs and parties in DC since moving to Washington in '95. Those have included Tracks, Tantrum and Velvet Nation. More recently he has spun at such clubs and venues as Club XS (York, PA), Crown & Anchor, Paramount Nightclub (Provincetown), Grand Central (Baltimore), Town (DC), Pure (Philadelphia), Woody's (Philadelphia), The Necto (Ann Arbor, MI), Hamburger Mary's/Mary's Attic (Chicago), Cherry (DC), Genesis Saturday's (DC), Wet Nightclub (DC), Capital Pride '06 (DC), Capital Pride '05 (DC), Baltimore Pride '05, Visions Cinema & Lounge (DC) and MCCXXIII (DC).
Jason is now the resident DJ (Tuesday and Saturday) as well as the Assistant Manager of Cobalt in Washington, DC.
"I don't like using hype words to describe my style of spinning. I like doing my own thing and having fun. I don't have a box of cheesy gimmicks and I'm not the main attraction...club-goers are." He goes on to say, "You don't have to be a superstar DJ to make a dancefloor happy. Getting people to realize that is half the fun."

I feel lucky to be a part of all that."
